8 days have passed since my last blog. So today is as good a day as any to do another one! Over the weekend I saw that Apple had pulled all the NEST smart thermostats from its stores. At first I was confused. I did not understand why. So I had to research it. Come to find out that Apple is releasing something called HOMEKIT. It is a version of home automation for those who do not want to spend the money on a bigger system. It does, however, have some hiccups. 1. This system can only have one user at a time. What that means that is that if you are logged in from your iPhone, you would not have control from your iPad unless you disconnect from you iPhone. 2. It can only handle up to 100 devices. I know it sounds like it is a lot, but you have to break it down. Light switches alone can take up more than ¾ of that! 3. The programming seems to be difficult. I got a chance to watch a webinar on the product and it is very difficult and time consuming to program. Okay, I know it sounds like I am bashing it, but I am not. I am not saying that this is a bad system. I am sure that there are plenty of people that can benefit from it. But do some research on it before you purchase. Make sure you are not just throwing money away. Remember you get what you pay for. You can’t get a new Lexus at a used Toyota price, LOL. I am sure that there will be much more information in the upcoming weeks on this new and exciting product. I look forward to seeing what Apple can do. While I may not be the best candidate, it sure will help open eyes towards Smart homes for the future. Until next time!
