HAI (Home Automation Inc) is a pioneer in the home automation industry. Since 1985 they have been making systems that offer excellent reliability and affordability.
The central processor for HAI has no moving parts, no hard drive, and no operating system that can come down with a virus. The HAI systems we shipped 7 years ago are still going strong in many homes!
HAI is DIY friendly, and has full APIs for integration. Because of these reasons, we use it as a core component in our Nimbus system.

HAI Strengths
Top on the list is reliability and value. The amount of features, expandability, and performance cannot be matched by any other professional grade system for the same price.
HAI makes a very wide line of products that have been designed to work well together. It’s possible to have security, lighting, climate, CCTV, and audio in your home and every piece of hardware manufactured by HAI. Not many companies can say the same thing.
In addition to HAI’s large product line, they also offer connectivity with many industry standards such as Z-Wave, Zigbee, UPB, and more.
Last, they are DIY friendly, and can be installed globally (unlike most of our systems that are restricted to the US and Canada).
HAI Weaknesses
While you can’t beat the performance, they don’t have the most style. Their components (light switches, thermostats, keypads) look perfectly fine, but their touch screens can’t hold a candle to Nimbus, Control4, or Crestron.
However, there a couple of very good iPhone/iPad apps available that have excellent user interfaces.
The other downside to HAI is video distribution. They talk to everything else in the house, but not your TV.
