Control4 gives you control over lighting, climate, and audio directly from their HC line of home controllers. The system can then be expanded to interface with security and video distribution systems as well.

While Control4 did not invent home control via the TV, they made it mainstream and it is one of their biggest advantages.

 

 

Control4 Strengths

C4 makes a great system. Highlights include their on-screen interface and fully integrated remote controls. They are a well known brand (in the automation world) and have partnered with a number of third party systems and devices for control.

Most of our Control4 projects are 1-2 room theater systems that branch to control a few lights. For this application the system is excellent.

 

Control4 Weaknesses

Honestly there are not many. The biggest complaint we hear is that Control4 must be installed by a professional dealer. There are no DIY options. For some people this is a non-issue, and for others it’s a deal breaker to pay spend a third of their budget on installation.

The other downside to Control4 is their yearly fees. While not excessive, there are annual subscriptions fees for remote access.
