Everyone knows that the next generation iPad is coming, but will Apple skip past the iPad 3 and go straight for iPad 4G?

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the newest iPad will feature 4G LTE technology, which will enable it to the faster networks on Verizon and AT&T.

It’s still speculation at this point, but it seems rather likely that Apple will capitalize on its carrier’s 4G networks.

Sources say that Apple has scheduled an event in early March to unveil the newest iPad, and many are speculating that it will be available for purchase a week or so after the event.
The iPad has definitely been a game-changer in the home automation field, and it’ll be exciting to see what changes have been made in the newest iteration.

Not Microsoft Windows, plain ole pie-on-the-sill windows turned into a touchscreen computer by Samsung.

The video really wants you to imagine having one in your kitchen, but we know what people are really thinking…

Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet

Amazon certainly seems to have the right idea on how to sell their new tablet, the Kindle Fire, in the age of Apple: a $199 price tag. A year ago,  Jeff Bezos stated that he felt people would buy the Kindle e-reader because it didn’t have Angry Birds. He reasoned that Kindle customers want books and iPad users want to throw cartoon canaries at pigs. Completely different audience.

Turns out, a lot of people want both, and the Kindle Fire delivers in that respect and more. The device’s full specs and feature list are up on Amazon, and I predict that it’ll make a big splash this holiday season as once tablet-weary consumers decide to take a chance on it.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any touch screen designs so I thought it was time to share a couple…

We have had a lot of requests for the Paradise theme below. This is a clean and calming design that puts the features you use right on the home page. This eliminates many of the buttons and options and boils the interface down to the buttons you will use everyday.

Here’s Paradise:

Our other creation, Glow, takes the same idea but gives it a totally different spin. The bright neon colors and frosted glass panels make the touch screen irresistable to touch…

Here’s Glow:

We would love some feedback on these. What do you think?

We always welcome ideas for other touch screen designs you would like to see. Send your ideas to design@milehighautomation.com. If we end up using your idea we will send you an official 2010 Mile High Automation t-shirt!

We have been using the HAI Omnitouch 10p for almost a year now. It is a great device that allows clients to easily control their home automation systems. Prior to the 10p and 5.7e touch screens, we used the OmniTouch 5.7 and before that the OmniTouch 3.9. These were great screens, but did not allow for any customization. The standard HAI interface is very nice and extremely functional. However, it’s not ideal for all homes. The now 10p and 5.7e, along with HAI’s automation studio give us the tools to unlock the screens and create some amazing touch screen designs…

The software tool, called HAI Automation Studio, can be used to customize the interface of Omnitouch 10p and Omnitouch 5.7e touchscreen devices. Using this tool, you can create the new interface for the touchscreen and then upload the new interface to the device. You can now choose your colors, themes, buttons, and options. Going further, we can map your floor plans onto your touch screen. The map would act as a menu to control the rooms in your house. These customizations make the system more personal and user friendly.
So, how would you like your touchscreen interface to look?

Kids love touch screens too! This design gives David three options, each will activate lights, timers, and A/V. As he gets older more functionality can be added to the touch screen.

Another design we have been working on. This is puts everything onto the floor plans for a very sleek and user friendly look. Clicking the icons on the plans will bring up music, lights, cameras, and thermostats.

I would love to get some feedback on these, post your comments below!
