Holy futuristic dwellings, Batman! The picture above might look like modern art, but it’s actually a house. The Compact, Hyper-Insulated Prototype (CHIP) Solar House uses an Xbox Kinect and a 3D camera to switch off energy consuming devices with a mere wave of the hand.
Unfortunately, your own energy efficient house of tomorrow will cost you a pretty penny. The prototype cost over $1 million to build and its builders estimate that replicating it for a consumer would still cost $300,000.

It would seem that fairy tales houses are in vogue these days. First we have the Round Tower and now we have the story of Simon Dale who built a self-sustaining home for his family for under $5,000. Most of the materials for the home were scavenged but the end result is really quite lovely.
For more details and pictures, visit Simon’s website.

We’ve looked at strange buildings before on the blog, and today we’re going to take a look at the Round Tower, an old English building resorted by the architects at De Matos Ryan. It doesn’t seem like a particularly strange building at first site, just an old tower, until you realize it’s a house and a rather modern one at that.

And the tower isn’t just for decoration; it hosts four bedrooms, and presumably each one offers a stellar view of the surrounding landscape.
