Home Automation, Inc. has announced stand-alone integration with their MicroControl and Kwikset ZigBee wireless door locks.
HAI’s MicroControl can be used as a standalone remote control for ZigBee wireless door locks. This functionality means that a home owner can wirelessly lock and unlock the doors to their house without any other automation equipment. They can also use the same MicroControl to coordinate all of their wireless energy management devices, including thermostats, water heaters, pumps, fountains, and more. The MicroControl provides homeowners a status of each lock and the ability to lock or unlock specific doors.
Additionally, the MicroControl and ZigBee wireless door locks can be fully integrated into an HAI Omni or Lumina home control system means increased access control with cutting-edge electronic locks from various manufacturers.

Home Automation Inc, announced a Connectivity Partnership with NextAlarm and their VoIPAlarm product.
VoIPAlarm allows the users’s HAI home control system to call and report alarm activity to a central station over IP for a low monthly service fee. This solution is ideal for customers that don’t have landline service or for customers that have an existing VoIP telephone service which doesn’t properly transmit alarm signals to the central station.
“HAI is excited to give our customers this unique option,” explained Scott Dudoussat, HAI Director of Technical Services. “As Customers are moving to IP voice services or dropping their analog phone line completely, HAI dealers need the ability to keep their customers alarm systems connected.”
Last week I heard about the whole Airbnb…scandal? Fallout? Ransackgate? Whatever. The Airbnb story about a woman who had her home destroyed and valuables stolen by the tenants she found through the Airbnb service.
For those of you who don’t know, Airbnb is like a trendy version of Craigslist minus the personal ads and incriminating photos of politicians…so it’s actually nothing like Craigslist, which is probably a big selling point. Say you have or are looking for a room to rent for a short period of time, Airbnb works as a sort of matchmaker to help renters find rentees and vice versa in a practice dubbed “social travel”.
About a month ago, a woman known only as “EJ” wrote about her terrible experience renting out her apartment through Airbnb in a blog post that recently started to get a lot of coverage on the internet.
The story has sparked a great deal of debate over who’s responsible for the safety of a person’s home and belongings. To most people, the idea of letting strangers live in your home with no vetting process seems absurd, but one of EJ’s main complaints is that she felt Airbnb assumed that responsibility when they charged a fee for their service.
But why leave any risk when you don’t have to? Technology has really made it easy to keep an eye on your home while you’re away. Don’t like the idea of security cameras or a monthly fee? Use motion sensors and self-monitor. If something like peer-to-peer traveling has some appeal to you, be informed and cover your bases. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention.
Snap-Link USB
Home Automation, Inc.’s Snap-Link USB has been updated to give users more control of their homes and/or businesses. The software, which comes equipped on a USB drive that users can plug into any PC, now features access to Hi-Fi 2 distributed audio systems, access control, dehumidifiers/humidifiers, and user settings such as irrigation and wake-up time in addition to control over lights, security, temperatures, and IP surveillance cameras.
HAI Dock for Multi-Room Audio Systems
The iPod/iPhone compatible HAI Dock began shipping last week in wired and wireless versions. The dock is designed for use with the Hi-Fi 2 Multi Room Audio System or a supported audio system from NuVo, Russound, Xantech, Speakercraft, and Proficient and enables an iPod or iPhone to become a source that can be played in any audio zone. The Dock not only allows users to control their device from any HAI IP enabled OmniTouch Touchscreen, but also charges the Apple device as well.

Home automation is not merely about convenience and energy savings; it is about security as well. Security is at the forefront of all homeowners’ minds, including yours. Your home control system can be programmed to do virtually anything you need it to do. Motion detectors, glass break sensors, carbon detectors, smoke detectors, are just the beginning. Your automation system makes your home smart. When the motion detectors are tripped, your system will call you and tell you which motion detector went off. When there is a fire, your smoke detectors will signal the air conditioner to turn off so as to not spread smoke throughout the house. These are but a few examples of how your home automation system can protect your home, your belongings, and, more importantly, your family.
