The average 3000 square foot home has about 30 light switches. While some people will automate all of them, others prefer to control the most commonly used switches.  Here is a list of switches to automate and why:

1.  Outdoor Lights:

Automating your front porch, garage, rear porch, and other outdoor lights are great  added security for your home. Each night at sunset the outside lights can turn on while you are away; and in the event of a break in all outside lights will flash on and off to scare away criminals as well as help the police locate your home.

2.   Scene Lighting:

Scene control allows you to push one button and have many lights go to different levels. We recommend placing scene controllers in rooms that have 3 or more lights. This is typically the kitchen, great room, and master bedroom. A scene controller is great for a movie night, you can press a single button and make all lights dim to 20% while keeping the kitchen light at 50% for your popcorn break.  Scene controllers also give you the ability to pressthe  ”All Off” button from the door as you leave your home. This is a great feature that ensures your not wasting any energy.

3.  Hallways & Stairs:

When tied in with motion detectors, lights can be triggered to turn on in hallways and stairs when someone walks through. The programming also allows for advanced control such as turning on hallway lights to 100% between sunset and 9pm, and only 40% from 9pm to sunrise. This will beparticularly useful when you’re going to the kitchen for a midnight snack, no more feeling your way down the hallway.

4.  Bedrooms:

Bedroom are great to automate if you have a child that leaves lights on you can save a good deal of money by automatically having their light turn off when the room is not occupied.

Mile High Automation is proud to announce that we are, in connection with Blind Corners and Curves, offering motorized shades and blinds. Blind Corners and Curves (BCC) have been providing quality products and installation since 1997. Our clients will benefit from this relationship immensely. BCC, in addition to being a key account for Hunter Douglas, has a custom manufacturing facility on-site for the creation of motorized blinds to fit oddly shaped windows (a staple in current construction). Our customers have been asking for shade and blind motorization and natural light control for a long time and we are now able to offer it.

The systems can be designed and installed for a pre-construction or a retrofit application through the use of wireless remote controls. We will integrate your standard lighting control system to work with your new natural lighting control system and function according to scene control, alarm status, vacation mode or even the astronomical clock. This will allow you to have absolute control over how your home is lit whether you are home or away, day or night.

The benefits of natural light control are great. Proper window covering and control will save your furniture, rugs and expensive artwork from the damaging rays of the sun. Think of it as SPF for your possessions. BCC will work with designers, architects, builders, homeowners and Mile High Automation to be certain your home gets what it needs.

Please get in touch with us and we will work with you and BCC to create the natural lighting control system you need. Check out their website at www.bccblinds.com to see the choices they have to offer.
