Home Automation, Inc. has announced a new version of the Snap-Link Mobile that includes the ability to remotely control A/Vequipment when used in conjunction with an HAI Home Theater Extender.
The extender allows for audio/video control using iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch integrated with HAI’s Snap-Link Mobile application in a home with an HAI control system.
HAI’s free HTX2 Mobile Designer software also allows for the creation and customization of graphical user interfaces for “remote control” pages that are used for controlling A/V equipment using an iOS device.
“Adding remote control for AV equipment into our app is very exciting for HAI and our installing dealers” explains Jay McLellan, HAI President and CEO. “Homeowners can now change the channel on the TV, adjust the temperature of the thermostat, lock the front door, or view a surveillance camera all from one hand-held application.”

Ideally, how would you like your iPad/iPhone to be utilized in your home automation system?

Two iPhones, one in Brazil and then another in Australia, have reportedly self-combusted in recent weeks.
The Australian incident happened on November 25 during a Regional Express flight from Lismore to Sydney. According to the airline’s official statement, one of the passengers’ phones “started emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow”.
The case on Brazil involved a phone that was plugged in overnight and started shooting sparks.
HAI Adds Configuration by Room Update to HAI Home Control Systems
HAI, has made a significant update to their controllers and interfaces that allows the configuration of items by room.
Using the new update, homeowners can use their iPhone, iPod, or iPad to quickly dial into a specific room. From one page, they can access everything in that room, including settings for lights, temperatures, audio/video, and more.
Using HAI’s PC Access software, dealers can provide custom room text like “Living Room”, “Master Bedroom”, and “Patio”, and classify which automated devices belong in every room. That information is then distributed to and accessible from every enhanced interface in the home. This enhancement will first be available for Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone, and will be incorporated into HAI’s other award-winning interfaces.
Additionally, the HAI controller will now store settings for the configuration of IP devices such as HAI Dock, HAI Music Gateway, and IP surveillance cameras. This allows easier and reduced installation times since supported interfaces can retrieve settings directly from the controller.
These new developments will be incorporated into HAI’s next controller firmware update, expected in September 2011. All items are backwards compatible. Users of Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone will receive free upgrades.
Home Automation Inc announced today that two of their entertainment products have received recognition from CustomRetailer magazine and Residential Systems magazine, and that HAI’s Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone received an award from Security Products magazine.
The new HAI Dock, which turns your iPhone or iPod into a wireless music server for a distributed audio system, received a 2011 EXC!TE Award while Residential Systems magazine recognized the Hi-Fi 2 distributed audio system as a Finalist for the 2011 RESI Award in the Integrated Product Family category.
Security Products magazine recognized Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone with a 2011 New Product of the Year award.
“HAI is delighted that our entertainment and remote access solutions continue to receive recognition from custom integrator magazines like CustomRetailer, Residential Systems, and Security Products”, explained HAI Associate Director of Marketing, Greg Rhoades. “We look forward to showcasing our award-winning products in Booth 427 at CEDIA.”
Snap-Link USB
Home Automation, Inc.’s Snap-Link USB has been updated to give users more control of their homes and/or businesses. The software, which comes equipped on a USB drive that users can plug into any PC, now features access to Hi-Fi 2 distributed audio systems, access control, dehumidifiers/humidifiers, and user settings such as irrigation and wake-up time in addition to control over lights, security, temperatures, and IP surveillance cameras.
HAI Dock for Multi-Room Audio Systems
The iPod/iPhone compatible HAI Dock began shipping last week in wired and wireless versions. The dock is designed for use with the Hi-Fi 2 Multi Room Audio System or a supported audio system from NuVo, Russound, Xantech, Speakercraft, and Proficient and enables an iPod or iPhone to become a source that can be played in any audio zone. The Dock not only allows users to control their device from any HAI IP enabled OmniTouch Touchscreen, but also charges the Apple device as well.
Remote Access
Home automation is all about convenience, but what good is all this home control if you’re away from your home? Remote access is an important feature to any home automation system. HAI’s Snap-Link is software that allows you to control your home from anywhere in the world. It’s easy to set up because it is self-contained on a USB drive or on your iPhone or Android powered phone. Ease is key; what good is remote access or any of the home automation luxuries when they are too complicated to understand? HAI’s Snap-Link software communicates with your home control system in real time so you can turn on and off lights, closes the garage door, and makes sure all the windows and doors are closed. HAI’s Omni Pro II panel even allows you to view your home security cameras from anywhere in the world. Now when you’re out of town you can still keep an eye on your home
