Step 1: Gather Tools
You will need a Compression Tool, Wire Stripper, BNC Connector, knife, and wire.
Wire - we use a combination wire that includes RG59, 18/2, and Cat5e. This allows us to connect any type of camera. |
Step 2: Strip the outer shell.
We need to strip back about 6 inches of the outer shell. Use a razor blade or knife for this, but be careful not to cut the wires inside. |
After removing the shell you will have black plastic strips inside the cable. Cut off of these off so you are only left with the 3 wires
Insert the RG59 wire into your wire stripper as shown. Rotate the wire stripper around the RG59 wire about 20 times.
Apply pressure to the top of the tool (where the cable is inserted) to make sure the blades cut deep enough.
After about 20 rotations, squeeze the top of the tool and pull the tool off the wire.
When done, your cable should like look the picture below, without the copper braids folded down.
With your finger, fold down the copper strands until they look like the picture on the left.
Slide the connector onto your wire. Push the connector firmly on the wire until you feel it click into place.
Hold the tool as pictured, and apply pressure to crimp the wire.
