System Example: The Works
This client was quoted over $250,000 for this system, then he found us...

Step 1: System Design

Project Overview

This client wanted it all. We designed the system around his specifications and were able to provide everything he wanted (and more) for almost a quarter of what he had received estimates for! Our installers traveled to Florida in March to pull wires and complete the rough-in. We followed up with the final installation 8 months later which took a total of 6 days. When we finished he had one of the most advanced and efficient homes in the country.

Step 2: Rough-in Kit

Wiring Plans, Guides, and Pulling Wire

Detailed wiring plans were created after the design and estimate were accepted by the client. Each system was diagramed on its own page, making the plans very readable. Custom guides were also created to ensure that no detail was left unanswered.

Mile High Automation sent its installation crew to do the rough-in. All the wiring was pulled and the rough-in was completed in 5 days.

Step 3: Custom Programming

Complete Integration

The sheer size of the home and the integration of his 12 subsystems (lighting, climate, irrigation, etc) made the programming of this system both challenging and extremely powerful. Here are some examples of what we did:

  • iPhone control - We set up the client's iPhone to control all aspects of the house, no matter where he was in the world. He could be sitting on the couch and use the iPhone to turn up the music, or be in China and check in on his cameras.
  • Energy Savings - While energy savings were not his main goal with this system, our client has been amazed with the results he has seen. We programmed heating/cooling to turn off when a window is left open for more than 15 minutes. We also used motion sensors to determine where people were in the house and what rooms were empty. In the empty areas the system automatically turns off lights, music, and excess HVAC efforts.
  • Increased Security - Crime was not a huge concern as the home was in a gated community, but family safety was on the top of their list. With the use of carbon and smoke detectors the house both verbally and visually informed the occupants of any problems.
  • Entertainment - This was a priority, and we gave this house an amazing A/V system. From any room the family could watch live or recorded TV, watch movies, and see their security cameras. We provided them with easy-to-use remote controls for each room as well.
  • Communication - With 3 kids and 8,500 square feet an intercom was a requirement. Not only can a house-wide "Come down for dinner!" announcement be made, the family can also speak with someone at the front door or outside on the patio from any room in the house.

Step 4: Trim-Out & Final Install

A full 6 days

8 months after we started the project it finally came time to do the trim-out and final install. We traveled to the home and completed the install in 6 full days. The MHA installer on-site connected a laptop to the system so programmers from the main office could make changes on the fly and test the system in real-time.

After everything was working correctly, we gave the family a walk through of the system and taught them how to use it. After the first 5 minutes the two teenagers were leading the tour.

Ongoing Changes & Updates

After the family had lived in the home for a few months they requested the following programming additions/changes. As with all our packages, we completed these free of charge, as we will do for as long as they live in the house.

  • Set all outdoor lights come on at dusk and off at midnight.
  • Set all thermostats to reduce their efforts 5 degrees when the family leaves the house, and resume when the family returns.
  • Play the message "pool door open" over the speakers whenever the back door is opened.
  • And many more to come...
