After doing extensive research on companies doing Home Automation, I decided to go with Mile High Automation.  From the first time I talked to Josh Ferguson, I was impressed by his level of technical expertise and professionalism.  Josh walked me through every step, from initial design, through wiring, and final installation.  Josh was always there to provide guidance and to answer my questions.  What impressed me the most about Mile High is when I asked Josh to provide the capability to interface my awning to my home automation system.  Even though Josh had no experience with that specific awning company, he was able to interface the two, and made it work seamlessly.  Josh is always responsive when I ask him to enhance the programming of my system to provide new capabilities.  I wish all companies were as customer service oriented as Mile High.

I started my quest for knowledge and information on this subject immediately after my wife and I committed to building a new house.  The main emphasis of what I was looking for most was a system that would allow me to build a house that would allow different systems such as internet, whole house audio, and security to be compatible with each other and also grow as technological changes occur.  I wanted my house to be a ‘smart house’ and the HAI system does that.

My research kept pointing me to Omni Pro II as the current leader in flexibility and compatibility for home automation even before I stumbled upon Josh and Mile High.  When you look at the sites of several of the on-line sellers of this type of equipment, it looked to me that most of the equipment was either compatible with, or trying to directly compete with, HAI.  The problem for me was that I was willing to figure things out given the proper information, but most of the information on the web is geared to either installers or programmers that are already in the field, and not necessarily to the lay person.

The first time I ‘talked’ to Josh at Mile High, and ran past him what I was looking for, and what I had found in my searches,  he immediately impressed me with his knowledge of the field, and the amount of time he was willing to spend dealing with me, especially considering I had not spent a dime with him.  Several of our first emails back and forth were simply him answering my questions, and then asking me more questions so he could understand what I wanted to do. Josh has been in the field as an installer, and obviously has a passion and a forte as a programmer.  So he is able to speak to both aspects, depending upon what you may need.  He immediately confirmed my interest in the Omni Pro II.  He also is very aggressive about learning the latest technologies and keeping up to date on new things that come to the marketplace.  Several times in our emails he would tell me about this new item that just been introduced at CEDIA or a new item that would fit in great with what I was trying to do.

My wife and I knew that we wanted a home automation system for the house we were building, but we didn’t know much about them. We started by talking to local dealers and getting quotes. We found that the systems they offered were expensive, and they didn’t give us the ability to do our own changes or upgrades if we wanted to.

We then browsed the web hoping to be able to purchase the components for home automation and then do it ourselves. After evaluating features and capabilities we selected HAI as our system of choice. We are not real do-it-yourselfers though, and we quickly learned that there was way more to designing a system than we knew how to do, and the web stores weren’t very helpful.

While doing web research I saw the Mile High website. I talked to Josh about what he offered and the process for working with him on getting a system. I explained that we did not want to do the wiring and initial install ourselves, but did want to have enough knowledge of the system that we could program and upgrade it ourselves in the future if we wanted.

Josh seemed to understand exactly what we were looking for. He started by helping us explore the possibilities of what a system could do and what options we had, and then helped us narrow down what we did and didn’t want. After several rounds of back-and-forth on the configuration he created a fully documented system design and quote, and then put us in touch with a company who could do the pre-wire and the system install for us (working with him remotely).

We are now living in the house and I can say that working with Josh on the home automation system was the smoothest part of our construction experience. He provides an extremely high level of service, and was complexly organized and thorough through the entire process. He is very easy to work with and was exceptionally responsive when we had questions or needed something. And the price of our entire system including installation was about half of what the local dealers were charging.

The HAI system that we have is awesome! In addition to security, climate control, lighting control, etc., Josh configured and provided a whole-house audio system that we absolutely love. We were initially going to leave the audio out until later, but we’re really glad we got it. My wife was a tough sell on the home automation system at first as we were going through the process, but now she proudly shows it off as she shows people our home; she loves it.

Our experience of getting a home automation system from Josh and getting it installed has really been exceptional. I have already recommended Josh to friends who are building houses and will continue to do so. As we use more features on the system he’s always right there when we have questions or need assistance. After deciding to renovate and add some automation to our home, I spent a fair amount of time talking to people about various options.  Unfortunately, in this technology area, comprehensive objective information is difficult to find.   Either companies/installers were only focused on a single piece of the home automation puzzle or they were astronomical in price.

I knew I could do a lot of the install work (with guidance), if I got some help with initial setup and programming.  Mile High’s business model fit this need perfectly.  Josh was happy to answer all of my questions, and we worked out a system within my budget.

I got custom DVD’s that demonstrated setup & installation, and Josh was there for support when I had a question.  Installation took some time, but it was my time, and done at my pace.  I now have a great HAI system installed at a fraction of what I could have paid, with lifetime support.

When my wife and I decided to build our own house, we wanted to make sure that our home was energy efficient with all the latest technology for home automation.  I knew that I wanted lighting control, whole-house audio and basic security.  As we worked with our contractor on planning, my dream for automation system faded as our constriction costs increased.  I resigned myself to putting in a small budget for wiring so that we could grow into automation down the road as we could afford to buy the equipment.

I wanted to make sure that I wired my home correctly and I continued to do research on automation systems.  I interviewed several automation contractors in my area and even got several bids, but all the proposals were completely outside my budget.  Then I discovered Mile High Automation.

I contacted Josh and he invited me to his home to show me his system – I was very impressed.  His system had all the components that I wanted – audio, video, HVAC control and lighting.  Mike High is setup to assist the do-it-yourselfer and Josh gave me the confidence that I could do the work myself.  With the labor cost savings, I could afford to have a system now.  Josh took a copy of my plans and gave me free design advise on wiring and setting up my system.  With this information, I set-off to pre-wire my home before drywall went up.  While pulling wiring was no small task - over 40 hours of work and nearly 7000 feet of wire – I got the job done and had set the foundation for my system.

My wife and I are now in our house and we love our system.  I purchased an HAI Omni Pro II with HAI UPB lighting.  It was very easy to install the board and switches and Josh pre-configured the system for me.  I simply installed the Omni Pro II, make my connections and plugged it in – it was very easy.   Programming lighting scenes is simple to master and Josh is always available to answer questions.   I’m still working on my system, but will soon be able to control all lights in the house, close an accidentally open garage door from my bed, and access my system from my office to turn on the air conditioner before I get home.

The whole process was fun and I estimate that I saved over $8,000 to $10,000.  Anyone who has basic computer skills and is willing to spend time pulling wires would have no trouble getting a great, low cost system for not a ton of money.  I highly recommend Mile High Automation.

When I bought my new house, I was looking for a new security system at companies in my neighborhood.  None of them seem to have what I was looking. While drawing the blueprints for our new home 2 years ago I began to research home automation systems.  Mile High Automation was the one I kept coming back to, even though I was slightly hesitant due to distance between Illinois and Colorado for questions, updates and service.  My hesitation has been proven completely unfounded.  Josh is extremely helpful and quick to respond to anything I asked.  Since we built our new home ourselves and time was a major factor, completing the automation system was not a priority once we wired everything during the rough phase.  In fact, I have just recently finished up 95% of it within the last month even though we moved in a year ago.  Even with all the time that has elapsed Josh has always responded to my emails within 24 hours.  He has worked out several issues, most caused by my off the wall ideas, and made them work.  The service end has also been great.  I had 2 defective switches which had to be returned to the factory.  Josh provided me a RMA# the day after I contacted him, I mailed them out and received the replacements within a week.  I would recommend Mile High Automation to anyone.

Working with Josh and Mile High Automation was a great experience.  Not only did Josh help me to put together a system that was both far better quality than the competing manufacturers, it was also nearly $10k less than those competing units due to the excessive installation and “consulting” fees those other guys charge (and their products which are grossly overpriced).

He was a great help, very patient and incredibly responsive when I was trying to figure out how to do my self-install.  He provided options, instructions, and even the tools I needed to install my Nuvo Grand Concerto, AM/FM/XM tuner, and MP3 server as well as 6 zone keypads and 6 rooms of speakers.

Mile High Automation is the best of all worlds.  Not only are they extremely competitive with price, the level of service and support far exceed what you would expect given the great prices.  The real discriminator when dealing with Josh is the service, knowledge, and advice that comes along with dealing with Mile High Automation.  Don’t even think of attempting a self-install with anyone else.  And unless you like spending more than is necessary, don’t go anywhere other than Mile High Automation.  Anyone else will take your money (and lots of it) and tell you why you can’t possibly do this yourself.  Trust me, if I can do it, you can.

To put it in perspective:  With what I saved by working with Josh, I was able to buy a new pool table, 250 bottle wine cellar, new bike, and snow tires…Oh…And I took my wife to Sedona AZ for a weeks vacation.  All things that wouldn’t have happened without Mile High Automation.

As a do-it-your-self kind of guy, Mile High Automation was the company for me. Two years ago my wife and I began the process of building a new home. As a newly wed couple this home was going to be our dream home, for we were selling two homes and bringing them into one. My wife and I got many quotes from retailers and installers from the area in which we live, and we quickly found out the enormous costs. We moved into a large Regency house in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in the Spring of 2008. The house had had no attention since 1950 and so we had the chance to renovate it from top to bottom. As the walls and ceilings would all need to be replaced, we took the opportunity to install a hard wired multi-room audio system. We looked at first to suppliers in England but their prices – in Sterling – were horrific and so we turned to US suppliers who offered similar systems at sensible non-European prices. Josh Ferguson’s business appeared to offer a top of the range multi room system for a lower price – in dollars – than a same spec system in England was priced in Sterling. Despite this cost saving, we were still cautious about trusting a supplier 5000 miles away. We could not have been more wrong. Josh created a technical specification covering our whole house, with detailed instructions and drawings for our builders. This arrived in a professionally-done ring binder and provided us with an easy-to-follow system blueprint that we could give to our builders. After this, the hardware turned up, suitably packaged and labeled, including wall instrument panels and central amplifiers and hard drives. The system was easy to install and easy to program and manage. However what really impressed us was Josh’s responsiveness to customer support issues: we had the usual inevitable queries and questions and Josh answered these immediately and correctly – he had memorized our system specification better than we had. I thoroughly recommend Josh Ferguson to any British (and other) customers. He is a rare example of a businessman who understands that his business depends on top class customer service and he delivers it.

Thanks Josh! The system is awesome!  When my wife and I decided to build, we had different ideas of what to install in our new home.  I convinced my wife that we ‘REALLY NEEDED’ the automation system.  She was a little hesitant at first,  but now with the project  completed, she loves it and is the first to show it off.   You designed a system to my request and had great suggestions all along the way.   The customer service was nothing less than excellent.  Every call and email was answered.   I originally planned to do the total install.  The plans and instructions were great and easy to follow.  I installed the wiring but being self employed and starting a new business,  I ran out of time to finish the install.  I tried to hire it done locally but could not get anyone to show up when they were scheduled.  After letting everything sit for a while, thinking I would have time to finish it someday…. I finally called Josh and asked if they would come and finish the install.   Dan flew in just a couple weeks later and finished the install.  Then,  Josh and Dan worked together via the phone and internet and finished the programming.  Everything was completed in less than a day and a half!  Even with the fact that I kept asking for additional items and programming changes.  Thanks Dan and Josh!   Plus,  while Dan was in town, he even took the time to visit my office building to design a system for it.   Whether your customer wants to install the system  or have it completed by you and your team, the company to use is clear.  Mile High Automation is the only choice.  Your company offers the best service, the best products at a great price, and customer service second to none.   After the service I received,  I will be adding a system to my office this winter.

A few years ago we were doing an house remodel, what better time to automate.  I looked into several systems on the market, but the costs became prohibitive.  My project was large and with all the bells and whistles it was quickly climbing out of a reasonable range.  Then I happened upon Mile High Automation’s website.  I talked with Josh about the end results I wanted and he quickly came up with several options, detailed plans from my house plans, and a strategy.  The components of the install came in waves, I guess to not overwhelm me and to allow me time to do the step by step installation.  The wiring took the most time.  Anytime I ran into a difficult situation all I had to do was call Josh and he was able to solve it.  He would either find the answer for those unexpected problems, secure link into the system to make the adjustments, or email some diagrams.  The project was quite an undertaking due to the sheer size of the project and the busy family schedule.  Near the completion, I was getting antsy to finish.  Right about the same time they had implemented a new program for actual onsite install.  Daniel came out to the house and in a short time was tying up my loose ends, finishing areas that I had not completed, and fine tuning areas that I had done.  This was a very nice way to make sure the project was up and running smoothly, plus it would not stay at that “90% done” stage I do with many of my projects.

All in all I very happy with the service, the setup, and the system that Josh and Daniel were able to help me design, install, and maintain.

I was having a lot of difficulty trying to find a do-it-yourself solution to home automation.  I happened upon Mile High Automation and haven’t looked back.  Gerard Nagle listened to what functionality I wanted and designed the perfect system to accomplish what we wanted and get the most bang for our buck.  Gerard patiently answered all of my questions and helped from design through final implementation.  I was initially concerned about working with an out-of-state company but everything happened seamlessly.  I would highly recommend Mile High Automation – and Gerard in particular – for any home automation needs.

I wanted to voice my real pleasure working with Gerard and the team at Mile High Automation on my recent new home project.  As you may very well be aware, building a new home can be a very stressful experience.  Indeed, many aspects of building my new home were extremely stressful! My home automation and security system on the other hand went more smoothly then I could have imagined.

I remember picking up the phone back in January and talking to Gerard about my grand plans on a regular guy budget and he put my mind at ease.  I wanted to plan for everything: audio, video, security, and automation but only implement the parts I could afford now. He worked with me to make sure everything I needed was designed and put in the walls prior to sheet rock.

I have now been in the house a few months and my absolute favorite thing to show off in the new house is the security and automation system.  My friends and family are stunned with system Mile High Automation put together for me.  Of course since I performed the self install everyone wants to know how I figured out how to do everything.  I’d love to keep that a secret and just have everyone thinking I’m really just that smart but eventually I have to tell them that Mile High Automation listened to what I wanted, and partnered to make it happen.  Of course I did have to pick up the phone and make that first call…… Maybe I am that smart.  Thanks again Gerard! You know I’ll be calling when I am ready to expand my system.
